I got to volunteer with Green is the new Black, an organization based on HT campus which deals with sustainability and affordability. What i had to do was help move the school garden from the old site to the new site. Kind of similar to what i did with the Colorado River Alliance organization. I also planted some new plants, edible ones too and herbs. It was a cool experience especially when you get to work with cool and fun people. Overall, i learnt the essence of sustainability and healthy gardening.
This experience i had while volunteering here was very educative. First the crew educated us about why and what we were going to do. Unlike the name, we worked on the little garden in the compound instead of the river. What I had to do was remove weeds from the soil and plant fresh, young plants. I actually gained some gardening skills. But in all, i learn how to plant and maintain sustainable gardens and why we have to do it. I hope to do that again.
Volunteering for the Food for the Hungry Organization was very wonderful and powerful. Basically we were to inform the audience that came for a christian concert about the organization. The organization help shelter, feed and clothe survivors of natural disasters. They also transform poor communities to healthy, productive places for children to grow. It was really amazing to see how many people where interested in sponsoring the children in these poor communities. I hope i have another opportunity to work with these people again.
