Having helped plan and organize this event from the very beginning, from event consultations to co-sponsor and advertising meetings, it was very satisfying to be able to volunteer at this event and see the turnout. On the day of, I helped with painting a banner for an activity booth, gathering and taking supplies to the venue, setting up booths and all of the tables, and organizing the new layout of the venue given a lack of resources when the event was moved indoors due to poor weather. I am grateful to have worked with such a wonderful team and I hope to volunteer at this event next year and see how next year’s team organizes this new event.
Explore UT was an event with the purpose of engaging and motivating young students about the opportunities ahead of them beyond high school. I was working at the greeting site, where we would greet the incoming buses of kids. As the first glimpse of the event, we had to make sure they were greeted with warm, happy and enthusiastic attitudes. It helped myself in motivating me to do as much as I can for the future generations, starting with small things such as this. I also met other volunteers with the same attitude. Next year I hope to volunteer at the event and try out another activity.
UT Road Trip was an event set up by a committee of Events + Entertainment. It was a watch party at the Student Activity Center which included activities such as Giant Jenga, group games, raffles, free food, and of course the football game. My main assignment throughout the event was to run the photo booth. I set up the backdrop using given material and a bit of creativity. It came out very nicely with the help of another volunteer. I also took the pictures and helped maintain a nice upbeat atmosphere. Although UT lost, it was a great experience seeing a lot of students come together to have a good time.
Longhorn Halloween was an amazing opportunity that I'm glad I finally participated in this time. We volunteered at one of the booths handing out candy and face-painting. Besides setting up and down the table, the rest of the time was very fun because of all of the children walking by in their cool outfits. It was nice being able to add a smile to their faces as they took part in the day's traditions. The event was very well set up and I do not see much areas that need improvement. Great event!
My job was to work on a laptop, working through a spreadsheet to help registrants of the race to pick up their information packets. Providing this service to the participants was great because I interacted with people of all backgrounds and ages as they prepared for their race. Also much effective communication was required to work with the other volunteers and that was fun and rewarding. I look forward to this event next year.
Our job at the Fun Run was to set up and manage the water station for the runners as well as clean up afterwards. This event was one of the most entertaining so far because I got to interact with many people, from preparing cups of water with other students to handing them out to runners and walkers as they headed towards the finish line. Again, working as a group for our community was fun, especially in this time of holidays.
