Cleaning bags for women though Texas Advocacy Project. Good experience, and fun too!
I volunteered for Inside Books, and I read letters from many inmates from various prisons, reviewed their book requests, and prepared packages with a personal letter written to them inside. It was great, like nothing I've done before, I will need to volunteer here again!
I volunteered for Neighborhood Longhorns Program, and helped set up and clean up the event they held at the Centennial room in Belmont in the stadium. We set up for a couple schools of eighth graders to come ask some UT students questions about college. It was fun!
Members of Young Conservatives of UT went to Umlauf Sculpture Garden to volunteer. We were assigned to make the entrance and garden cleaner looking. My friends and I worked together to rake a lot of leaves and pick up litter off the ground. It was really fun, and the people at Umlauf were really nice, and I learned a bit about the artist Umlauf and his story! I'd enjoy volunteering again.
I served the Sustainability Squad today by promoting correct recycling during the UT and West Virginia football game on 9/8. My group was sectioned an area of the stadium to go check every trash and recycling bin every view minutes to make sure that the correct trash was in the correct bin (recycle or landfill). When something was out of place we moved it, aka, food misplaced in a recycle bin. One point of our job is to make sure the recycling was correct because that makes it easier on the people filtering through recycled trash at recycling plants. Another portion of our job included encouragement of proper recycling, so we'd often times thank people for recycling correctly, and politely teach where and what to recycle to those who did not know. Great experience!!!
It was really fun, the event staff were very organized and I really enjoyed being part of helping the set up of Longhorn Halloween. I helped organize balloon placements for (what I believe was) around 70 booths, plus other stage and stair decorations. Very good experience!
