I went to Winchester Assisted Living complex with Texas Pre-Dental Society to volunteer to play board games, card games, and even play music (I played the piano) for the elderly residents. The experience was scary in that you have to actually talk to the residents and also me and a couple members went onto different floors of the assist living complex to welcome more residents to our board game hour, thus having to speak to the residents in person. I would do this again, weekly.
Volunteer at the Tết Trung Thu 2016 * Mid-Autumn Festival at the Asian American Resource Center. Performed and Entertained audience.
Made children smile and enjoy the Moon Festival. Also allowing them to learn what the Moon Festival is all about.
A Chinese/Vietnamese traditional festival
Volunteered to perform martial arts and traditional lion/dragon dance a Vietnamese Tet Festival at the Travis Expo Center hosted by VSA and VACAT. I prepared and performed a solo performance at the festival to celebrate the New Years.
The experience was exhausting in which it required physical work and organization and preparation with other groups. A schedule was made to keep the even organized. However, my overall experience was excellent in that I was able to spread ideas of the Chinese and Vietnamese culture.
Served in the Charity Crew for the Wipeout Run. Volunteered at the first obstacle course to cheer on and make sure runners are safe.
The experience was fun because we got to run the obstacle multiple times and be enthusiastic to runners in costumes. Thus, bringing good energy to the environment
YMCA Family Field Day- Volunteered as Traffic control and helped kids stay on the track of the 1k run. Cleaned up park and help take down event.
As a group of students from the UT HOSA organization, we went to the Ronald McDonald House Charities to cook and serve cancer patients breakfast. We cooked from scratched which was a lot of effort and fun, we end up making three different types of scrambled eggs, fruit salad, and pancakes. I feel like this volunteer event would be something I would love to return to and continue because cooking was an experience. It was nice to be able to utilize any kitchen supplies readily available for us; what was unique about the kitchen was that there were ingredients or dishes left from other groups who came to volunteer as well - could have been used to create something different.
Volunteereed at the Longhorn Run 5k/10k 2015 as a Vendor Assistant. Assisted companies such as Muscle Milk, Amazon, and Student Housing. Helped Amazon un-box Jell-O packs and set up tables, threw away boxes. Also Helped Muscle Milk with unboxing shakes and refilling ice containers with shakes and ice. Assisted in telling where people should go. I learned to find anyone who needed assistance instead of standing around and waiting for instructions by a busy coordinator who runs around unable to do everything at once.
