Worked with a senior volunteer to make sure I was doing everything correctly, then walked dogs, scooped poop, and folded clean laundry.
My first time at APA! I got to learn on the job how to handle dogs, and where everything is. I was able to walk a few dogs supervised, until the orientation people felt confident in my abilities and let me go. I walked Kola (since adopted), Arv, and Quest. It was very rewarding, and I'm looking forward to going back to interact with more dogs. The more I go, and the more training I receive, the more dogs I can walk, as different dogs have different (sometimes challenging) behaviors, and further training will allow me to move up from easy-going dogs to frightened dogs, who need human interaction the most so they can get over their fears and become the best pets they can be.
