Came back a second time after visiting earlier in the week. It was a really good time just like my first vist.
Inside Books is a special place that does wonderful things for all of the members of the Texas prison system. This being my very first time volunteering, I was introduced to all of the work that they do, and I really enjoyed being part of something so special. Hearing people's stories and being a source of hope, inspiration, as well as education makes this a great experience and leaves you with the urge of wanting to come back and do more!
We raked the garden and cleaned it if weeds. After that we gathered compost and prepared new soil for new plants and seeds. I love this place because it gives you the opportunity to serve the community by gardening, which is awesome.
The poetry slam competition was a great event to help run and I really enjoyed my time helping there. I volunteered from 7-11pm which was approximately 2 shows/bouts and had multiple roles, scorekeeping, timekeeping, and even judging.
It was very nice to do something for all of those that are less fortunate than us. It felt very rewarding to participate in an event that wanted to make a difference in peoples lives, even if it was something very small.
The tree planting was awesome, I learned so much about how to properly plant and maintain a tree. It was very rewarding work and it made me feel very appreciative of all of the nice parks we have in the Austin area.
This volunteering activity was very different from the usual events I participate, but nonetheless it was a great way of giving back to the community.
This is actual work that amounts to so much for the community. This organization feeds so many with just one shift and a few volunteers. We work in a warehouse sorting donations, cleaning, keeping it going, and it is for a great cause. I am so glad I can be an active volunteer for this organization.
