It got a little difficult since the sun started to come out and warm up the campus, but it was still a lot of fun sorting through all the donations. I am amazed at how many people showed up to buy donations!
I really appreciated the amount of support that we received even though we were the only two volunteers. The voucher was nice, and while it would have been nice to have more volunteers, it's still manageable with only two people.
There was a lot of donations waiting to be sorted by people who dropped them off at the site the night before. Unfortunately, a few items were too worn to be accepted and had to be disposed of. Regardless, it was still a fun experience accepting people's donations, and I look forward to volunteering with Austin Resource Recovery in the future.
The experience of accepting used items was nice, and the staff at the main collecting station helped us out as much as they could. Even though I think the experience would have been a little better if there were leading mentors at each satellite station, if possible. I was stationed at Lenox with Bailey, who was very helpful with accepting the items. During our shift, we were able to collect 12 items!
It was a lot of fun collecting the donations. It's still amazing how we collected 840 lbs today!
It was fun to connect with other students and to know that we handled over 400 lbs of donations
It was very informative and fun to hear about how to properly dispose of different materials
