Bella Bowman Foundation Event, Bella Bowman Ball at L’Auberge Casino and Hotel. BSM served as volunteers for this amazing community event. We had 23 student volunteers who served this night. We helped with the silent auction as runners and organizers for all of the prizes, then getting them distributed to the winners as they claimed them. We helped at various stations throughout the event selling tickets, giving out information, and being placed around event and available for any request given by the event staff. The community support and generosity is incredible! They asked for our volunteers to return again every year and were so thankful for our help!

Awesome event! This was my 4th time participating, and I hope to help be a part of more in the future! Seeing the kids in costumes, and the creativity and hard work of each station is wonderful.
Annual Pie a Professor for BSM at SGA’s Oktoberfest was another successful event. 7 faculty members volunteered to be pied for this fundraiser. Dr. Gautreaux and Dr. Rash brought in the highest number of pies.
Oktoberfest has continued to grow since I chaired the first annual event as a SGA officer. I was super proud of how much it has evolved with so much participation, and continues to be such a fun and enjoyable event. Great job to SGA for continuing to raise the bar! My favorite on campus event!
Painted and decorated donation boxes for BSM’s Socktober collection campaign. This is a thoughtful and meaningful event for many in need throughout our community, and glad to be helpful to support this cause!
I wanted to try and bring something different to campus that would be medical or science in nature, and fun competition for students. So BSM hosted a Medical Spelling Bee during an SGA on campus event. We had lists of difficult medical words for challenging fun. I purchased novelty items for prizes that were themed like blood candy, syringe shot ink pens, stickers, pen lights, stethoscopes etc. I thought is was a fun themed game with buzzers to buzz in the answers. I had a great time searching out and getting the themed prizes. Students seemed to really enjoy the challenge and all the goodies! I felt like it was a successful and enjoyable time for all.
Halloween Family Movie Night is a great opportunity for those with children or families to come onto campus and be a part of an event. This was the second year I hosted the Doc McStuffin Treatment Station. The kids love it as they can bring their stuffed animal to get fixed up. I supply fun stickers and bandaids and extra animals if they don’t have one, and the kids get to play doctor and make their pets well. This makes my heart so happy because they are practicing compassion and helping others through imaginative play. I will gladly donate the play station to be used for future events!?
“ BE THE MATCH DRIVE”
After learning about “SCID”(severe compromised immune deficiency), also known as “bubble boy syndrome", which is a rare X linked recessive or autosomal recessive inherited disorder, I began to researching learn about this condition . We are friends with a family who has 2 sons with this condition. It is very rare but unfortunately the urgent need for bone marrow donation was discovered during this research. There are so many patients who are in need but do not have a match, even from their own family members.
This stirred me into wanting to do something to help!
I reached out to the Bone Marrow Registry, Be The Match. After many conversations and training to become a Host for a drive, I pushed forward with an on campus drive during an SGA event to recruit students willing to help save lives! We signed up 24 willing participants during the drive, and educated students of the purpose and lifesaving help they can provide by selflessly being willing to save someones life with a donation. Be the Match was great to work with and very helpful and thankful for our service!
I felt there are many local organizations in our area that make a positive impact on the community. I acted on one that has a very personally motivated and meaningful mission. Pediatric Cancer is such a tragic occurance that does not discriminate. I reached out and asked about forming a partnership with Trey and Kim Bowman of the Bella Bowman Foundation. They came to a meeting and spoke about their journey and happily accepted our volunteer efforts. We served as the BSM organization representing Fran U, with 20 student helpers. The "Bella’s Royal Celebration”, was held at the Renaissance Hotel. Student volunteers were a part of the entire event. We helped with the super heroes, lines, hosted the guest at tables, passed out crafts, helped with activities, took pictures, followed any instructions given, and stayed to help clean up after it ended. This was a special event that we all felt honored to be a part of. They were so thankful for our service and asked us to help at their next event!
