I have never been so cold in my life, but we finished planting the Half-Pint Prairie today! I pass by the plot location almost every day on my way to class, and it'll be worth seeing the plants growing later in the semester as a result of the team's hard work.

I got to help out the Austin Park Rangers remove ligustrum trees, an invasive species in central Texas! I learned how to identify ligustrum and how to remove it properly. I'm excited to be a part of the effort to maintain biodiversity in Austin by controlling the populations of invasive species.
I worked with Jerry from the Peace Park Conservatory to remove 2 kinds of invasive species near the trails and the creek. Jerry taught our group about the invasive species, and I was able to see and understand the problem more in depth, then be a part of the solution. I loved worked with Peace Park and having a hands-on project!
This was one of my favorite volunteering events that I have attended. I was able to actually see how much stuff is regularly thrown away on my own campus. It amazed me how much trash a community can produce, and I am proud to be a part of the effort to reduce waste at UT Austin. I signed up for two shifts, but I was not allowed to complete the second one because of a policy from the athletics department. This policy should be noted on the events page!
