My sorority and I volunteered at the Micah 6 of Austin. It was an amazing experience. We got to package goods for the homeless and impoverished. It was fun being able to help the community with dedicated and caring people.
Ladder of Risk. The SFL staff and I were assigned to put on a program that was catered to UT Greek Life. I was in charge of checking people in to this event, seating up the environment, passing out t-shirts and water bottles in addition cleaning up.
I was able to help and participate in Black Family Day. Black Family Day is an annual event that is thrown on by the Afrikan American Affairs council. I got to help set up and serve food to parents and UT students,
I was able to volunteer at the Heritage Place nursing home and play BINGO with the residence. It was a great experience. They enjoy having and seeing UT students.
I had the privilege to welcome high, middle, and elementary students as they filed off the bus to explore UT. For some, this was the first time that they had ever stepped a foot on a college campus. I was also given the opportunity to answer questions about college life.
Annually, UT throws a night of African festivities. I was able to be apart of constructing the scenery, and help UT with the stage set up. After the show, I helped take down chairs and clean up West Mall by recycling and properly disposing of any liter.
