We Are Blood

Served as a Canteen Host, where I greeted blood donors in the canteen (where donors go to rest and eat snacks after they donate), offered them something to drink, as well as monitor them.

We Are Blood

Served as a Canteen Host, where I greeted blood donors in the canteen (where donors go to rest and eat snacks after they donate), offered them something to drink, as well as monitor them. It's rewarding to be able to talk to some of the donors and to just spend time with them, especially since some of the donors are elderly.

Jackie @ Habitat for Humanity

I volunteered with my TIP mentees and another TIP mentor group at Habitat for Humanity. While we were there, we were assigned the responsibility of building a fence-line and setting up the posts to align the fence. It was a good task to include all of our mentees, and it taught us to work together as a team. It was also pretty fun, and it was cool to see our hard work after we finished. Now I can say that I helped build a fence!

Alpha Phi Sigma Honor Pre-medical Student Society

I volunteered at an event called Brown Santa, where I basically just wrapped gifts for families and their children for Christmas. I was given a certain family to help wrap gifts for, and I was also given toys or books/puzzles to wrap for the small children within the family. This service was basically for families who weren't financially capable of getting their children gifts. The toys and gifts that we wrapped were all donated to this organization, and I was fortunate enough to be apart of it for one hour. I really enjoy wrapping gifts in general, and getting to do it for another family made me appreciate what I had. I would definitely participate in helping out with this organization in the future.

Jackie @ HopeFest

At HopeFest, I got to volunteer with a group of TIPCO students and various other volunteers to serve food to over 250 people. Although it was a little stressful trying to plate food for everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed it because it was so rewarding. I was also really thankful to have worked and served with the other volunteers that were there because we all got the chance to work together as a team. It was awesome to see everyone help out for the cause, and I am so happy to have been a part of that experience.

Zero Waste Softball Series: Sunday, April 12

During this event, a few friends and I got the chance to encourage people to throw away their waste in appropriate compost and recycling containers during a UT home baseball game. We educated some people on which wastes were appropriate to throw away, and which wastes were appropriate to recycle. We ended up gathering all of the compost and recycling together to see how much everything totaled. It was a fun opportunity!

Holiday Heroes Project

Writing letters to the Iron Rakkasans of the 187th made me realize that I should be more grateful to live in a place that is constantly protected and guarded by so many honorable men and women.

Open opportunities at ULN Mentors 2014-2015

With my mentor group, I helped pass out candy and little notes of encouragement to people walking in and out of the PCL. It was kind of fun giving other students candy, and knowing that you could've made their day a little bit better.

The University of Texas at Austin

I volunteered at PETCO (through TIPCO), and I played with dogs that were up for adoption. I helped encourage customers going into PETCO to consider adopting a dog, and it was a fun experience. The adoption group/organization was called "Forgotten Friends Mixed Breed Rescue," and most of the dogs that were up for adoption were very sweet and loving.

I volunteered for a food pantry called Micah 6, and even though I was only there for a short time, I got to experience a lot. During the 2 hours that I was there, I helped stock the shelves with food such as pasta, produce, and various vegetables. It's amazing to see how much food the volunteers could put out for the people. All of the volunteers were very welcoming and courteous, especially since it was my first time volunteering at Micah 6. I definitely will return to help again.
