On Friday November 6th I volunteered another day at Mary Hilton's Life skills class! We colored some worksheets and it was nice seeing every kid's unique creativity! We had fun together baking cookies. We also participated in inclusion toward the end of the day. We went to another class and learned about teeth hygiene. We saw a video about brushing teeth and played hangman afterwards. It was nice seeing all the kids taking turns answering questions and playing hangman!
On Friday Oct 28th I volunteered with a life skills class at Wooten Elementary. Mary Hilton is a great teacher to observe and volunteer with! I was able to help out with the kids during the recycling program. We went from classroom to classroom collecting their recyclables. I was also able to see inclusion in the library. Two classes and the Life skills class were together during reading time and all the children picked out library books before we left. It was great getting to know all the kids!
This past Sunday I helped out collecting the money as people donated money to get chicken plates after church. It was a nice experience receiving the money and turning in all the money that the people donated! I also helped clean the tables and wash dishes after everyone ate.
The week of March 20th, I helped sing at church on Sunday morning, Tuesday night, and Friday night. Usually if someone participates in the choir on Sunday, they participate the entire week. I had the privilege to sing three days out of the week. Even though I was tired from school and work, singing at church gave me more energy and joy throughout my week!
This week of February 28th I helped sing in the choir on Sunday morning, Tuesday night, and Friday night. I had a great time singing with my other sister all three days. I also enjoyed serving the plates of food after church service on Sunday and on Friday. Although it was a lot of work, I am glad I had the opportunity to bond with other sisters by cleaning and sharing stories in the kitchen!
I helped sing in the choir this Friday. We sing in the beginning of service and at the end of the service. I always enjoy participating in the choir even though I get nervous while being on stage. I am always afraid of messing up the song, but then I realize that I should not worry because I am only singing for God!
I really enjoyed volunteering today! I thought the kids were getting used to me and actually listened to me alot more. I loved helping the children with arts and crafts today. It was also nice playing on the seesaw with the kids before they were picked up to go home!
My fourth day of volunteering was great. I enjoyed singing songs with the kids when we transitioned from the playground to motor room and from the motor room to class. I also enjoyed singing along with the song/video that would play on the smart board. I really like how there is organization in each activity we do!
I enjoyed my third day of volunteering. I really liked story time and the arts and craft we did during the day. I realized that one of the favorite activities that we do during the day are going to motor room and story time. Motor room is always very exciting for the kids and for me because I get to help them with their motor skills. Whether it be throwing ball to hit pins or helping them get on a swing, I have a blast in the motor room with the kids.I also like how story time is so interactive and very visual.
October 13th was my second day of volunteering. I felt more comfortable in the motor room that day because I had already been familiar with it. I did feel a little nervous when one student did not want to leave the motor room. I had a little trouble finding a way to get the student to go to class, but one of the teacher's helped. The teacher I was assisting also gave me great tips on how to get that student to participate in activities.
