Overall, volunteering as an usher for the Baylor vs. University of Texas game was very exciting. Even though it was excruciatingly hot outside, it was fun getting to interact with the crowd and meet so many friendly new faces. As an usher my job was to take people's tickets and help them locate what area their seat was in, as well as answer any other questions they may have had. As an usher we also were accountable to search up and down the bleachers for any lost merchandise as the game ended. Overall, very fun event to volunteer at, but be prepared to stand on your feet ALOT and really work!
Volunteering at The Texas Tribune was a great way to get to know more about the insights of the Austin Community. Here we were split up into multiple groups and assigned specific areas to help assist people going to their committees. I personally volunteered at the shift for panels where many of the volunteers were assigned rooms with designated speakers, and would stand at the doors making sure the event operated smoothly, as well as run the microphones back and forth into the audience if the speaker allowed for open questions. Overall very fun event to attend!
