Volunteer Opportunities at SXSW

Hannah gave to SXSW

served on the Interactive Panels crew during the SXSW Interactive section of the conference as a Shift Leader in the Green Room. Work included tidying up space for panelists, making sure that panelist needs and questions were attended to, and coordinating with my two volunteers to fill in other places (such as crowd control) when needed.

Longhorn Halloween: UT Service Scholars Booth

This was a great experience - I was able to volunteer with a couple other Service Scholars for our booth for Longhorn Halloween. The booth was simple - hit a scarecrow with four birds on its shoulders and knock all of the birds off with beanbags. Although everyone who attempted got the same amount of candy, all of the kids had a blast and I loved seeing all the different costumes that all the kids and parents were wearing.

Longhorn Halloween, Day of and Tear Down: added final touches onto Haunted House and acted as a scarer in the "hospital" themed room. I then tore down the Haunted House after the event was over.

AIDS Services of Austin

This trip is my third time to ASA, and I did the standard thing of condom packet making. I worked mostly with my friends and stayed for an extra thirty minutes after they left, but my packet making pace was a lot better than the last time I was at ASA. If I would have stayed longer, I could have outdone my personal record of 170 packets in 4 hours but I may just have to find out if I can do it next time I come to ASA.
