It got a little difficult since the sun started to come out and warm up the campus, but it was still a lot of fun sorting through all the donations. I am amazed at how many people showed up to buy donations!
There was a lot of donations waiting to be sorted by people who dropped them off at the site the night before. Unfortunately, a few items were too worn to be accepted and had to be disposed of. Regardless, it was still a fun experience accepting people's donations, and I look forward to volunteering with Austin Resource Recovery in the future.
The experience of accepting used items was nice, and the staff at the main collecting station helped us out as much as they could. Even though I think the experience would have been a little better if there were leading mentors at each satellite station, if possible. I was stationed at Lenox with Bailey, who was very helpful with accepting the items. During our shift, we were able to collect 12 items!
We collected lots of good stuff from students moving out - enough to fill a Goodwill truck
Work was not hard, and was very happy to know donated items will be reused by students. Great effort by University to encourage recycling of items that are still serviceable, and reduce waste. Students who buy articles will have saved on expenses.
