Do you like to travel? Do you have a knack for discovering and telling stories, through writing, video, and/or photography? Want to be part of an international team of students writing a book about service-learning?
We are accepting applications for the 2020 program. We are looking for student writers, photographers, and videographers. Through photos, videos, and/or interviews, you will document the process and impact that the PolyU service projects have on the communities being served and the teams of students serving these communities. The goal is to design, collect and collate stories into a series of articles that will eventually be bound into a published book for PolyU’s Office of Service-Learning. Your team may choose to complement the written articles with films, photo albums, or some other form to tell the stories you encounter. You have the creative freedom to choose how to craft these stories and in whatever medium you like in addition to the published book.
During the course of the internship, you will have opportunities to travel along with our student teams as they serve in countries such as Rwanda, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia and/or Vietnam. Therefore, this job involves traveling to overseas sites in developing countries. Some of these sites will be in rural areas. Projects that our students will be working on (and will be expected to be covered in the documentation) include engineering/renewable energy, health care, eye care, nutrition, hotel, and hospitality training. You can expect that you will spend approximately 3-4 weeks traveling with the service teams.
Interested students are expected to be able to express themselves well, either through writing, or digital media (photography and/or videography). Experience in creative writing or digital storytelling is a plus, as is prior experience in traveling abroad, especially to developing countries. Students must have a valid passport that is not barred from traveling to the following countries: Cambodia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Rwanda, Indonesia and be physically and medically fit for such services. Students who have a track record in community service are preferred.
The deadline to apply for 2020 is February 5th at 12:00 P.M. (noon).
